"Cusp" needs to be defined precisely to answer your question. We cannot use that term to refer simply to a day on which the sun changed signs. The sun is half a degree in width from geocentric perspective. The position of the sun is located at its center. So "cusp" for the sun refers to the last quarter degree (0*15') arc of one sign and first quarter degree of the next. Therefore there is a 1.67% chance of any given person being born with the Sun in such a cusp area.[ 12 sign cusps / 360 degrees; 0.5 degree cusp/sign = 6 degrees of total cusp space; 6 / 360 = .016666... ]------------------Expert rectification, professional astrology consults http://kannonmcafee.wordpress.com/ Brobian quote:Originally posted by Kannon McAfee: "Cusp" needs to be defined precisely to answer your question. I have explored many webpages and the cusp's, on an average, is usually described as being between the 19th day and 23rd day of every month. The cusp, of course, would be determined by the pair of Zodiac's which the Sun is crossing through. I have done a large portion of natal chart readings within my time and, I assure you, the individuals born between these dates are typically effected by the energies of both constellations, which definitely holds true with my children. Trust me, I know my children quite well, I mean I am the one who has been raising them for the past 18 years. If you spent a year with them, you'd know what I'm talking about. Yes, you will find many websites supporting this but the more that you consult personally with professional astrologers, they will say that there are no cusps (more or less - like kannon said) Kannon's explanation is simply taking into account the diameter of the sun, when it very literally is touching two signs, which is briefly. It's in one sign or the other. Brobian quote:Originally posted by DeepFreeze:I agree with kannon on this. I always predetermine where my spray line, the spray of the gun, should approximately land. However, that durned over spray always hampers me. I'll think it's only going to over spray a certain amount but then it squirts out twice as far as I had anticipated. Before I got into real Astrology and only knew my Sun but knew about cusps, the Leo/Virgo resonated with me way way way more than just Leo. Back then I figured that was the reason I never felt as 'Leonine' as other Leo Suns I knew. The descriptions I've read for this cusp before fit me to a T. Of course now that I know and am into actual Astrology you can say that this is because of taking in the entire chart itself with all its different components, but looking back on those descriptions for that Sun cusp I still believe they are a thing. Just my two cents!Kannon McAfee quote:Originally posted by Brobian: With all due respect, I don't believe that the scientific aspect is needed here. I'm currently camping with my family and were are having a few drinks and singing karaoke. This iPhone isn't wanting to cooperate with me. CelesticaI'm in the camp of people who don't really "believe" in cusps, if you will. When you look at a natal chart the sun is at a specific degree of a specific sign, not just freely inhabiting some weird limbo. IMO the reason cusps have any sense of validity in people is because both Venus and Mercury swing around a very limited space of the sun, Mercury will only ever be in the same sign as the sun, the sign directly behind it, or directly in front of it. I.e. if you have your Sun at 28 Leo (which lots of sites would tell you is the cusp) your Mercury is prooobably going to be in either Leo, or Virgo. Having a Virgo Mercury would give you some qualities that would make you go "Hm I'm not totally a Leo, I have some Virgo qualities, ergo my Sun is on the Leo/Virgo cusp"OdetteHi Kannon, I was just wondering - Do you have an article on cusps and the cusp-area for each planet? Or, if not - Are there any online sources you would recommend? I'm very interested in this topic because in the space of less than 5 min both my ASC and Venus change signs. My ASC goes from 29' Gemini to 00' Cancer... and my Venus goes from exactly 29'59 Aries to 00'00 Taurus (also conjunct my NN at 00'01 Taurus).AscTaurusLet's put this whole "cusp' thing to the test.We are right now on the "cusp" of transiting Mars in Aries/Taurus.
Therefore there is a 1.67% chance of any given person being born with the Sun in such a cusp area.
[ 12 sign cusps / 360 degrees; 0.5 degree cusp/sign = 6 degrees of total cusp space; 6 / 360 = .016666... ]

Brobian,
It was you who asked 'what are the odds?' which is a 'scientific' question involving mathematics in order to be answered.
So why did you ask such a question if you are already expert enough to reject a factual and accurate answer?
